Is this the blog you are talking about http://arnarchy.wordpress.com/ ? Please always provide a link to the blog when asking questions since we typically have to be able to see the blog in order to answer questions.
The calendar only links to posts. Pages are static and meant for information that seldom if ever changes, such as an about page. Pages sit outside the blog structure and dates are not part of the identity of pages.
If you look at the URL of a post, it will look something like this: http://blogname.wordpress.com/2009/07/11/my-post (notice that the date is part of the URL).
If you look at the URL for a page, it will look like this: http://blogname.wordpress.com/my-page/ (notice there is no date in the URL).
Just for reference in case you do not understand the differences between pages and posts: http://support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ .
Drawbacks to using pages for your main content:
1. Pages will show up with lower in search engine results because they place lower emphasis on pages because they are meant for static content.
2. When you publish a post, wordpress automatically “pings” all the major search engines to let them know you have published a new post so that they can index it. When you publish a page, wordpress does not “ping” the search engines.
3. You can assign categories and tags to posts to help the search engines properly place you in search results. Pages cannot have tags or categories.
