can a blog use more than one theme?

having moved my family blog from another site to WP I initially adopted 2011 theme which seemed to work ok with the archived posts but I am frustrated with the way it wraps text and images when creating a new post. I want to try out the new theme Nishita but in activating it all the archived posts are also forced onto it and it creates a mess. Is it possible to have your archived posts with one theme and any new posts with a different theme? I would like the previous posts to still be visible to the family.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry you can’t have more than one theme per blog, but since wordpress blogs are free why not set up two, an “archive” blog and an active blog? You can link between them with link widgets or menus if you want.

Thanks – i suppose I could do that, its just that it would mean notifying my contacts again about a change. Alternatively if I could just control the placing of images and wrapping of text in 2011, I’d consider sticking with it; but it drives me mad having to constantly preview the blog to see how it will actually appear and I just can’t place my images where I want them and expect the text to flow around them. If I add a caption to an image then trying to drag the image to a location seems to separate it from the image. I’ve read the support info about using images but in practice it seems to be largely trial and error!

No you cannot have more than one theme on a blog. Also note that we Volunteers are not going to spend ages waiting for your blogs to load in order to help you.Every post on your blog has large images and multiple images and studies demonstrate the the average internet user will wait no longer than 3 – 4 seconds for a site to load before they click out. Page loading time is also a page ranking factor.

    1. Please, please go here > Settings > Reading and reduce the number of posts appearing on your front page.
Blog pages show at most __posts
Change that number to one that’s under 5 posts. Then click “save changes”.

    2. Please also go here > Settings > Writing
and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

If it’s not, then look for an open HTML tag and close it. Check your blog again and see if it is back to normal. If it’s still “messed up” then open the next post and do the same thing post by post until it goes back to normal.

    3. See here for aligning images and text wrapping.

    4. Which browser and version of it are you using?

Again thanks for the pointers. It seems to load pretty quick to me, certainly within a couple of seconds, but I’ve done as suggested. I tend to use either Chrome or Firefox browsers, both up to date. I’ll persevere with 2011 or do as tandava108 has suggested and start a fresh blog with a new theme. Cheers

@kparkrobs – there can be at least two reasons your site loads fast for you – you are on a super hot ISP link and / or your browser has cached all your images and so only needs to load the new images as all the old images are loaded from your PC.

Clear your cache and internet files if you want to see how your site really loads.
