Can a Comments link be added to a text widget?

I’m interested in adding a comments code to a text widget so that others may add their posts. Can this be done? Is there a widget that can do this? Is there code that I can use?
    Thanks!

I have a problem in understanding what this widget should do: offer a link to a comment box? Where should the comments appear? In an own page? Maybe if you explain it better we’ll be able to answer…

I have 4 columns. The first has my blog posts, which have comment boxes. The second through 4th can contain text widgets, page widgets, flickr, etc. When I post a photo or badge in a text widget, it sometimes would be nice to be able to add a comment box – depending on whether I want comments or not. When creating a new page (which is actually a post from me) it would be nice to have a comment box pertaining to that particular post since it is on a new link and has no element for comments. Both are not possible right now. Did I explain that well enough?

You might want to read this to get a good understanding of the differences between pages and posts. Pages are static and sit outside the blog structure. If you create a page and then keep adding to it with more sections there is only one comment section that applies to the entire page.

Anything you put in the sidebar is general to the blog, not to specific posts.

Both on posts and pages it is possible to switch the comments individually on and off. I suppose you have fjords04 as a theme: on that theme the comment link appears at the bottom of the post. No need to use widgets (and raincoaster got the point: anything you put in the sidebar is general to the blog, not to specific posts.)

Thanks. I do understand. Now I know what was wrong but has since righted itself. There was no comments box on my ‘pages’. Now, magically, it is where it should be. Ghost in the machine?
I also understand about the text widgets being general to the blog, but if I wanted to post something in one of the other three columns of the fjords04 theme, then am I out of luck for a comments box? It may be a picture, a commentary, etc. that I don’t want in the general blog column. . . that could remain, or I could change out occasionally.
Just asking! I appreciate the feedback and this great forum. ~Anne

If you want to post different things other than the standard widgets in your sidebars, just use the text widget. You can have up to nine of them. You have to put the contents in using HTML, but they are very versatile. If you don’t use HTML yourself, you can always make a draft post and then, once it looks the way you want your widget to look, click on the Code tab and use that code. Just stick it in the widget, add a title, and you’re done.

Thanks I’ve done this- I’ll repeat: but if I wanted to post something in one of the other three columns of the fjords04 theme (probably in a text widget for lack of any options), then am I out of luck for a comments box (linked to that text box)?

Oh, you want to make a BLOG POST in one of the other columns! Now I understand. No, that cannot be done at WordPress.com. You could post text in a text widget and put a link to “comments” and make that a link to a blank page or post if you wanted, that perhaps duplicated the remark. But it’s kludgy.
