Can a featured image be from a link?
-
When I use images on my blog, I mostly link them from Flickr. That’s where I share my photos with friends already, and it’s easier to just copy a link than upload the image to WordPress. I recently switched to the Morning After theme, though, and want to take advantage of the featured image. It seems like I have to upload a picture into my gallery to use that as the featured image. Is that correct, or is there a way to use a linked image as the featured image?

As far as I know, to set the image featured, you must include it in your blog’s image-library.

Please see here for the instructions for uploading images into your Media Library so they can be inserted into post and/or pages and displayed in your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/#uploading-images Inserting images which already exist on another web site or domain like Flickr is not an option for you as it will not upload the document/file to your blog’s Media Library where you can select them and make them ‘featured images”. Also when images are hosted elsewhere, if the files are removed from its location, the images will no longer work on your blog. However, if the image is in your Media Library then you can achieve what you want re:featured images. -
