Can a tab point to an external link instead of a page?
-
Hello there. First, I am new to WordPress.com and I am absolutely loving it. I just created a blog for our university’s chapel using the theme Digg 3. I already did some (amateur) tweaking on the template to fit the school’s web site.
My question: Is there a way to have a tab (let’s say ‘Beulah.edu’) that would point back to the university’s main website? I need a tab which when clicked would take you to beulah.edu.
Is it possible?
I already tried ‘thesracredpath’ idea featured here:https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/help-back-to-main-website-from-blog?replies=17#post-295138
But it doesn’t work so well… or it almost work. When I add the line name you want to appear in the tab the name on the tab gets messed up and the tab gos blank, even though it points to the school’s site.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Raincoaster, I’m assuming it’s the blog his username is linked to. ;)
bhublogs, you should just be able to put the link in the page title as tsp suggests:
<a href="URL of the webpage">name you want to appear in the tab </a>The thing you have to be careful about is that the name you want to appear must have a space in it (no idea why, it’s just the way it is). If you only have one word in the name, make sure to put a space after it:
<a href="URL of the webpage">Beulah </a>not

The thing is… when I leave the space, the link works, but the tab is messed up. I will do one and leave it up there for a while so you guys may see it. Hopefuly one of you could help me.
Thank you so much for such fast response… I’m impressed!
It’s there. The name I typed was “BHU” with the space. I already tried without space and indeed it doesn’t work, exactly like this: BHU
Thanks again!

I apologize for not typing the blog address, but rosclarke is right… if you click on my name it’ll take you to my blog. Thanks.

Weird.
I checked the source code and it’s seeing this:
<a href="http://chapelblog.beulah.edu/bhu/" title="<a href="http://www.beulah.edu/">BHU </a>"><a href="http://www.beulah.edu/">BHU </a></a>If I were you I would try deleting that page and then starting again.

rosclarke, I don’t know what else to do. I delete the page and do it over again… but it still doesn’t work. I am typing exactly how you guys instructed me. If you could please try to help me further I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

If I remember right, there are some themes that do not take well to this trick and apparently Digg 3 is one of them since I just tried it on my test blog and had the same results. I even tried it with two words and no go.

tsp is right, the trick doesn’t work well in Digg 3 and a few other themes: you get the original tab, now blank, plus the linking one below it, hidden by the header. Nothing to do with the number of words.

In that case, it seems like your best option would be to have it set as a standard page, with a link on the page itself to the main website. Or to put the link in the sidebar.
