Can Anyone Explain a HUGE loss in stats

  • Unknown's avatar

We were in the thousands for a couple of weeks, but suddenly for the last 2 weeks we’ve plummeted despite having pretty much the same amount of posts.

Can anyone explain what might be happening?

Purchasing a new domain will make your site start over in a way until your pagerank builds up again. Or if your site has been labeled as mature, that will take it off global tags.

And there’s a bug with the global tags right now that will impact not only people coming from the tag pages, but your Googlejuice as well. See the thread at the top of the forums.

How can one check if ones site has been labeled as mature?

If clicking on the tags or categories on the post itself takes you to the global tag page, you’ve not been labeled mature.

  • universalgeni, raincoaster, mymyspacelayouts and threadtrend: none of your blogs are currently marked Mature.

When moving to a mapped domain you might notice a temporary drop in search traffic, but your old blog address is correctly redirected to the new one so Google will notice the change and transfer your “juice” soon enough.

There is an ongoing bug that causes occasional posts not to show up in tag lists, but it’s a bug, not a policy. We’re still trying to track it down.

Raincoaster is correct that tag links in mature blogs don’t go to the global tag lists, but I’ll add one clarification: the Uncategorized (or default) category always points to your own blog, because there is no global Uncategorized tag page.

    Thanks, I didn’t know that.

I was told by staff that my footer tags at the bottom of each of my posts will still go to the global tags page unless I was a completely private blog.

  • psb: sorry, yes, that’s correct. I was thinking of the behaviour for private blogs. Mature blogs still link to the global tag pages. The bit about Uncategorized is correct but mostly irrelevant.

Now I’m confused, because I’ve seen a lot of blogs with the local tag behavior on the blog posts. And I know they’re not private blogs. Has something changed? Maybe there’s still code leading to the global tag pages, but if you click on the category link of a post on such a blog you just go to a local tag page. Or is it just me?
