Can anyone tell if a Web Robot is hitting my Site with false post views?

  Hi there, I was surprised to see over 300 post views of one of my posts “Animal Olympics.” I went to StatCounter which I use to log visits, and found a single IP address attributed to Central District, Hong Kong ( WinVista, IE 9.0 ) had hit that post. I copied the info to a Word document and if you go to the post in question and scroll to the bottom of the post, you can click on the tiny word “End” and open my Word document showing the hits.

  I can’t see that they are regularly spaced apart in time, but almost. This is most bewildering to me. The question I have is why would someone “hit” a post or a page hundreds of times? I don’t know why. Are they using a “bot” to try to get specific information, and the bot/robot has yielded 300 hits on my post, in this case??

  If any WordPress staff member or techno person reading this can please suggest what may be happening here, and why, I would be most grateful. I hate my stats being out of kilter, because I can’t help it but I love my Stats and love them being as “true” as possible.

  I did notice the top search term phrase for the day of this being “elephants can carry wood” with 402 views attributed to this single search term. Perhaps this is much ado about nothing, but nevertheless it annoys me a little, as to me it really means that I should be subtracting 401 views from my total stas to date.

  Also, a similiar experience has already happened once on my Blog, I think, with someone using the search term “Luke Michaelides”. At first I was pleased, thinking tons of people/readers had been looking at my post about the “Buffalo Whisperer”, but no, I think someone was desperately looking for info about a singer Luke Michaelides.

  oops sorry, here is the link to the Post in question. I noted 404 hits on that post, and 402 views under the search term “elephants can carry wood.”
