Can blog urls be transferred to other people when original becomes redundant?

There is a blog URL that I would really like to use, however it is already in use. Now I went to the URL in question and this blog’s only post is the “welcome to wordpress” automated post when starting your blog and it was dated at march 7 – 2008. Is there a way for these types of URL’s to be given to other people so that they can use them for their blog as it is kind of a shame that these nice names for a blog are taken by a website that is not in use.

    Thanks in advance :)

contact the blog owner and convince them to give the address to you – you are one your own however as WordPress.COM will not help you contact the blogger for privacy reasons

Hmm, and that’s the only thing that can be done so? Even when it’s been 6 years since the last post? Since it seems very unlikely to me that someone who hasn’t used the blog in 6 years would reply.

that is the way it is – no expiration date for a blog URL and no requirement to actively post to a blog – some sites are different after a few months of no activity they delete your work – that can be a bit rude shock to find your pride and joy gone just because you did not feel like writing for a few months –

Yeah I can understand that if you have a lot of posts and it deletes just because you don’t feel like writing, but this blog literally has 0 posts.

But I understand why they do it, just a bit of a shame to see good names go to waste I guess haha.

Anyway, thanks for the reply man! Have a lovely new year :)
