  as the title suggests, can externally hosted shopping carts be used to sell on wordpress.com? For example, if i listed a product on wordpress.com could that be linked to an externally hosted shopping cart? i don’t seem to be able to add a donation button, every time i hit update after pasting the code wordpress omits it.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  oops, didn’t explain that too well, my second statement related to adding a paypal donation button for an item on the blog, seems to me like wordpress sees the code when it’s being updated and cuts it.

  Theoretically, but staff have suspended blogs whose sole purpose is to direct people to an off-WP website. You should run it by them first.

  WP strips out the encrypted version of the Donation button.

  @enfleurageevents, I was experimenting with the PayPal buttons last night and discovered that you won’t get an Email tab for the link if you customize the button to heavily (for example, by adding a drop-down menu with options). This comprehensive guide to working with PayPal buttons confirms that customization isn’t available for email links, which you need to use PayPal buttons on WordPress.com.

  What you can do is create a separate button for each option instead of combining a number of different options into a single button. That will work fine on WordPress.com.
