Can Grandpa follow me without a WordPress account?

I invited my grandpa to follow my private blog and when he accepts the invitation, it brings him to registration. He doesn’t want a WordPress blog. Can’t he just see my blog and get an email every time I post?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

He does not need to have a blog. What he needs is an account. WordPress recognizes people by their email address. The email address is the only personal information he needs to provide in order to set up his account. He will also need a username: it can be anything that has not been chosen already—that is, he does not need to use his real name.

Surely that’s a bit tricky! I have a blog with every post password protected and is there a way to bring up a page asking to insert a password and then press submit and ur in?

Password protecting each post is not as secure for being private online as marking you entire blog as private.

All you need is one person who will share the password to some one you don’t want to read your posts and there you are: everyone then knows that password; any stranger, tweeter, facebook friend and all can read your blog. It may be wiser to just make your privacy settings so your blog is public but not searched by Google, Bing, et al. Secrets are seductive, so folks who would not usually be interested could be tempted to just “take a look…” just because it’s hush hush. -
And then, let’s remember that password protected posts still show titles for all the world to see. Your “secret” site may actually reveal more than you intend it to.

I don’t necessarily want to have the upmost security just want it to be seen by people who i know…

gouis23, I agree with 1tess – all it takes is one person to share your password, and your privacy is violated.
But there is a Site Visibility section in Settings > Reading. Choose the “I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose” option. Then, in Users > Invite New, you can invite the readers you want.
