Can guided transfer move my theme?

  Hello!

  I don’t think I’m using a premium theme, so can the guided transfer move the theme too? I need to move from .com to .org self hosted.

  Themes, premium or free are not exportable.

  When you purchase a premium theme, it is available for the lifetime of that blog. If you would like to use the same theme across multiple blogs, you’ll have to purchase the theme for each blog.

  Note: Premium Themes are customized for WordPress.com usage only, and cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/premium-themes/

  Contact the theme designer http://alienwp.com/ and ask if they have a version that will run on WordPress.org software.

  Since it mentions only premium themes, I wasn’t sure if that would apply to free.

  You’re welcome. :) No themes either premium or free that are coded to run on WordPress.com multiuser software can be exported and used on WordPress.org software – period.

  Actually, the information here is mostly incorrect. All themes that run on WordPress.com can be run on a self-hosted (WordPress.org) instance. Anyone can actually download any of the WordPress.com free themes via svn checkout as our free theme repo is public. Premium themes OTOH are restricted.

  Anyhoo, long story short, we do push a copy of your WordPress.com free theme as part of a Guided Transfer.

  Hey @timethief , thanks for the heads up. We just updated the language on that. A premium theme can be transferred out now if its licensing allows it.
