Can headers link to an external site? Can there be two headers?

    Is there any way to have a header link to an external site? And/or to have two headers?

    I work for a program within a college and have to make our site conform to certain branding guidelines. I need the college’s logo in the top left corner (it can be small, ideally smaller than the main header), and it *has* to link to the college’s main site. I still want our site’s header to appear right below that. I really hope this is possible within WordPress. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

    <i>The blog I need help with is idanceed.com which is under construction, so please ignore any design/functionality issues if you view it. :) </i>

    Unfortunately, you cannot link it to your college’s home page with a site hosted at WordPress.com. You’d have to have a custom theme designed for you, and host it on a webserver other than WordPress.com.

    I’d suggest speaking with your school’s IT department to see if they have an alternative way for you to host a website.

    Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, the only way the college offers to host a site is through their CMS which doesn’t offer the functionality we need (such as blog format, or allowing students to comment, etc.,).

    I suppose I’ll have to find a new host, or see if there’s a way to get around or tweak any of these guidelines.

    @idanceed, we can help you with this by using a CSS trick. It requires putting the linked logo image into a text widget and then we can help you move that text widget up and into the header area.

    @andrewcpht, this has come up before and a typical workaround WordPress.com users tend to use is just what thesacredpath mentioned. Pretty tricky!

    @idanceed, here is an example that you can use to get started. It takes one of your existing widgets, the search box, and moves it into your header area. Then it moves the header image over to the right to make space:

    #search-3 {
    	position: absolute;
    	left: 40px;
    	top: 40px;
    }

    #page {
    	position: relative;
    }

    #branding {
    	background-position: 180px;
    }

    You could use the same technique except with the different widget. First, add an image widget or a text widget with your logo and a link inside it. Then you need to find the unique identifier and replace “#search-3” with the one from your new widget.

    If you need help finding the unique identifier, reply back here as soon as you’ve added the new widget.

    Note that you will need the Custom Design upgrade in order to save CSS changes. You can find out more about the upgrade here:
