Can I add a link to a sidebar? Last time I asked I was directed to a tutorial that said to use visual or text editor but these options are not available when I’m editing my sidebar.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! Actually, when add a link to you sidebar, you’ll want to add a text widget.
You can do so by visiting Appearance → Widgets in your site’s Dashboard. Or, click here:
https://centralcoastbuzz.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.phpI was able to click on one link in your sidebar that took me to a Century 21 map, so I assume you’ve managed to figure out a solution to your question. However, if you need more assistance, please let me know.
Cheers!

Thanks for getting back to me!!! I actually tried adding a text widget but it gives me no way to actually add a link — no link icon or anything else. So when I type in my link info it doesn’t show up as a link, it’s just text and a reader would have to copy it and then load it rather than just click on it. I’ve watched online videos that suggest adding a plugin (black studio something) but I don’t see any plugin option in my dashboard. Maybe it’s impossible?

Hi there!
In the sidebar, you need to add the link manually. You only get that Link Button in posts and pages. However, I can help with the HTML code, so the next time, you’re able to do it on your own.
Here’s what I need to know:
What is the link URL? And do you want the Link text to be the same as the URL, or would you like it to be a different wording?I’ve watched online videos that suggest adding a plugin (black studio something) but I don’t see any plugin option in my dashboard. Maybe it’s impossible?
Third party plugins cannot be installed on WordPress.com sites. This is a security risk as we cannot vet all outside code and it puts our users, their sites, and our servers at risk.
Plugins are only usable on self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
However, once you know the process, I think you’ll find the html linking pretty straight-forward.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Sorry but I was waiting for a link to come to me — now I have it. It is
I am able to insert this into pages but it is so long it looks weird – is there any way to call it something else like “MLS Property Search”?
Re: inserting into widgets (sidebars and footers), I would appreciate HTML help and also would like to call it by the MLS Property Search name there as well!
Hope you are having a good holiday weekend — I hope to hear form you soon… :)

Hi there!
You added the URL as a piece of text in your widget, but not as a link. I’ve made the adjustment for you. Please take a look at what I’ve done. In the future, you can add any HTML links in your sidebar in the same manner. You can also change the link’s title as you wish.
I hope this is helpful.
Thanks very much! All the best.

That’s fabulous! Thank you! Now if I want to add a property search link to various pages in my site, how do I do that and call it “MLS Property Search”? I tried reinserting the link using the link button and adding a name but it didn’t work??

Hi again!
You can copy and paste all the code that I entered into your Text Widget, and paste it into the Text Tab of your page editor.
I did try out your link button and it seems to work ok for me. Just want to check your process:
- While you’re in the Visual tab of your page editor, type MLS Property Search into the content box.
- Highlight the entire term, “MLS Property Search.”
- Click the link button.
- Add the entire long URL (starting with http://) into the box and click enter.
That will add the link. You can check it out by clicking the Preview button before you publish.
Let me know how that goes! Thank you :)

So sorry to ask again, but could you give me the HTML code you used to add my link to the sidebar? I was trying to change the link and I lost the HTML code.
Thanks much!!! :)

Hey Debra! Sure:
<a href=”http://ccrmls.rapmls.com/scripts/mgrqispi.dll?APPNAME=Centralcoast&PRGNAME=MLSLogin&ARGUMENT=IDhwoShpM0Dzv3xi2JMlv6rymn5xvuXn9GTS9oKOPB0%3D&KeyRid=1“>MLS Property Search</a>
Just copy/paste it all into the Text tab in your editor.
Thanks much!

Hello again!
Thank you so much for your great help with my website — I’m thrilled that it is starting to take shape.
I have yet another question — is there any way I can add a plug-in or otherwise create a way for readers to give me their contact information if they want me to contact them? I’ve seen something I like on another website and it said it was a cforms plugin??? I already have a widget giving my contact info and a widget allowing people to follow my blog, but what I really need is a way to capture my readers’ emails!
Thanks once again!

Hey there! I’m so happy to hear that things are going well.
I have yet another question — is there any way I can add a plug-in or otherwise create a way for readers to give me their contact information if they want me to contact them?
The best way to collect email addresses for your mailing list is with our Contact Form function. Here are the setup instructions:

Just so you’re aware for the future, third party plugins cannot be installed on WordPress.com sites. This is a security risk as we cannot vet all outside code and it puts our users, their sites, and our servers at risk.
Plugins are only usable on self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
I know the difference between .com and .org can get confusing, so here’s a breakdown of the benefits of each:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/Sometimes, even without the installation of a plugin, we can help you gain the function you’d like here at WordPress.com. If this comes up again in the future, let me know your goals, perhaps I can help further.
Please let me know! Cheers.
