Can I add Amazon link builder on a free version blog?
-
WordPress states you can use Amazon affiliate on a free blog as long as the primary purpose of your blog isn’t to drive traffic to affiliate and there’s original content. They even suggest using Amazon https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/#affiliate-linking
But javascript isn’t allowed on free version blogs, and in the Amazon affiliate program, there’s javascript to copy in the primary menu in ‘custom links’ https://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-amazon-com-affiliate-links-to-your-wordpress-com-site/
I’ve tried copying it, and it won’t go through. Although it did a week ago. Can Amazon affiliate links still be used with the free version? And is it possible to add the Amazon link building widget to a free blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there, Amazon Link Builder is a plugin that you would only be able to use if you have the WordPressdotcom Business plan upgrade.
Are you following this support guide? https://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-amazon-com-affiliate-links-to-your-wordpress-com-site/
Note in Step 3 on that page it says:
You’re now at the Link Builder, where you can design your Amazon Affiliate link. To be able to use the affiliate link on WordPress.com, you’ll need to choose either the Text Only or Image Only tabs. The Text and Image link type won’t work on WordPress.com.
Whichever one you choose, the resulting code needs to be added to the HTML tab of your Post or Page Editor.
At what point are you getting stuck when using this guide to adding Amazon affiliate links?
-
I’m using text only. I click on add to menu, and then the frame in which the text is goes red, and it won’t let me through. It’s the last action before save. At the end. And I never had any problem until a few days ago.

Hello again, I’ve tagged this thread for Staff assistance in helping you troubleshoot this issue. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Hi booksonaspergersyndrome,
Can you send an example of the code you are trying to add to your site?
Just to confirm — it sounds like you are having trouble with step 6 of our Amazon.com Affiliate Links documentation, is that correct? If so, which post or page would you like to add the affiliate link to?
Thanks!

Justjennifer, thank you. You’ve been very helpful.
Gemmacevans, yes, I’m having problem with step 6. Here’s an example of a code I’m trying to add to the blog. Click to view<img src=”//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=aspiegirlg-20&l=am2&o=1&a=1849059152″ width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”” style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” />
It’s that post https://aspiegirlblog900040703.wordpress.com/2018/01/21/can-aspies-understand-social-cues/
But I’m having trouble with each and every one of the posts I’m trying to add the code to (in the primary menu). And I CAN add the link to a post. That’s no problem. It’s just the step 6, adding the code above that I can’t put on the primary menu. And I’ve never had any problem with it until a few days ago.
Thanks for trying to help.

Hi booksonaspergersyndrome,
Thanks for sending me the code. When adding it to your menu, please make sure you are only using the product link, not the code for the image which starts with
<img src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=aspiegirlg-20&l=am2&o=1&a=1849059152" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />I tested the code and the image isn’t loading at all. The image URL doesn’t look valid so I recommend double checking whether you are using the correct version of the code for that.

Thank you, gemmacevans.
I’m using the code I always use, and I’m sure it’s the correct version. I’ve followed the instructions in the link of how to add affiliate links exactly. Perhaps something’s wrong on Amazon because I just tried another code, and that one isn’t working either. I’ll contact them via their affiliate program chat on Friday.Have a nice day

Hi booksonaspergersyndrome,

It’s possible the issue is on Amazon’s end, so it would be a good idea to speak to them next.
Let me know what they say.
