Can I add .gif files to my header?

I want to have a header on my blog that would flash different funny messages. I made a .gif file and uploaded it into my header, but I just get a still frame. I checked the wordpress.com forums, and saw that .gif files are one of the few files allowed as a header image. I read that it will be converted into a JPEG after it is cropped. So I guess my question is: Is there a way where I can upload animated images to my blog header?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry, when I said forums above, I meant the wordpress support website.

Yes but in order for them to work they must be exctly the correct size for the header before you upload them. If the cropper comes into play the animation will be history and they will appear as black rectangles.

Thanks, it worked. My blog header looks really flashy (pardon the pun).
