Can I advertise on an externally hosted website?

  Hi. Im starting a new wordpress blog with a domain name (example.com). I am going to be using a custom theme which, I believe, can only be used with external hosting.

  I understand that certain advertisements like Google Adwords are not allowed, however I have seen many semi-pro wordpress blogs that have advertisements. If I host externally can I run advertisements?

  Read the sticky thread at the top of the forum on the difference between wp.org and wp.com.

  With a self-hosted blog, you are pretty much able to do what you want, limited only by the terms of service of the hosting company.

  no advertising allowed on wordpress.com hosted blogs.
  But on self-hosted blogs anything goes.
