Can I archive current posts to appear that they were posted in the past?

    I am currently helping my father-in-law update his blog. He has been keeping a daily blog for over three years now, and wants to transfer it over the wordpress, because his current domain is being shut down.

    One important thing we would like to do is add his previous blogs to his wordpress archive so that they will not be added as his most current blog post. He has blogs dating back to 2008, which are very important and necessary to keep on the same page as his most current daily blog entries. Is it possible to “post” the old blogs, but for them to be dated back to 2008, rather than showing up as the most recent blog post?

    Also, he would like his web address to be http://www.jonathots.com, with no wordpress in the URL. I noticed that there is an option for doing this when starting up a brand new blog, but is there a way to switch over to that once the site has already been launched?

    Hi there,

    You might want to see if we offer an importer for his current blogging system:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

    If not, you could see if you can export his entries into a supported format, and then import that file here at WordPress.com.

    If you import the entries by either method, the post dates should be correct.

    Otherwise, if you choose to manually copy and paste the entries, you can always change the post date by following these instructions:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/schedule-a-post/

    (Note that this page refers to changing dates to a time in the future – but it’s the same process if you want to change it to a time in the past.)

    As for your last question: You can map an existing domain to your WordPress.com whenever you’d like. Further instructions are available here:
