Can I ‘archive’ old comments

I’m trying to resurrect my site. There are comments still there from 8 or so years ago. They are meaningful comments but not related to the current subject matter. Can I archive them or save them and yet have the comment screen look like its starting over from scratch? New visitors won’t see the old comments?

  • Hi there – I looked around your two sites and I see comments that were put in the “trash” folder for https://canatara.wordpress.com/ — is that the site you’re working on here?

Trash folders are purged. If you don’t want to lose them, I don’t recommend keeping them in the trash.

    Two alternatives to consider:

    1. Restore them to the original posts and pages and just roll with it — those are good bits of commentary, and, though they’re dated, commentary shows interest and interest is a positive.

    2. You could try restoring them and setting them to “pending” status. Though, that will create a bit of a distraction that you would need to wrestle with any time you need to review any new pending comments that need your approval.

Dean, thanks for your reply. I am in the process of deleting those files and I see that you then have to take steps to permanently delete. I started doing that and saw they would disappear. Then I saw a little box on the delete page that said something like “remove future notifications about this” so I checked that. Now I can’t delete the others on my list. I click Trash Permanently and nothing happens. Guess I shouldn’t have checked that box. I thought it would get rid of those annoying green pop ups that said file was deleted. Please help me restore the delete permanently feature.

Dean, sorry to have bothered. It appears the permanent delete is working again. No need to respond.
