Can I attach an uploaded image to multiple posts/pages?

    Hi!

I’m trying to use several existing images that are already attached to galleries and slideshows in various posts to create an additional page as an overall portfolio of work.

I need the images to continue to be attached to the content they already support. Is there a way to attach an image to multiple pages or posts so I can “re-use” the same pics I already uploaded to create my portfolio?

    Thanks!

    Hey there,

At this time, images can only be associated with one post or page at a time. If you’d like to associate the image with more than one post, you’ll need to upload it again.

If you’d like to display a gallery on a particular page that’s composed of images attached to another post, you can use this shortcode:

    [gallery id="123"]

Where “id” is the ID number of the post the images should be pulled from. There’s a list of other gallery options available here.

    Best,
    P.

If there are a lot of images you are doing this with, for galleries or slideshows, then the process described by pcrumm can be very very tedious.

If so, it would be easier to simply upload them again.

WordPress.com will add a number to designate that they are different files (ie, different as in a file with the same name but attached to a different post or page).

If they are properly sized and compressed images, they will not take up very much of your storage space.

But if what you want is to insert a past image into a new post or page, then you can do that without re-uploading it. Just insert it from your library.
