Can I back date a post?

Can I back date a post? I would like to post today, about an event that happened earlier in the month. Can I set the date of the post to show as if I wrote the post on that date?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

yes! I just did this yesterday! When you look at the right hand side of the screen you will see the option to change the date/time of post. Just change it to the earlier date you wanted. Voila! A new post back dated!

Backdating posts can be done, but be careful about doing so on older posts in an established blog: the date is part of the link to each post and if you change those links search engines will give your readers a 404 not found error. The old link will stay on search results until Google (bing, yahoo etc.) re-indexes your site. That might be months before they do so and your readers will not get to your post.
