Can I block a single IP address?

One of my overseas readers is showing strange behavior, accessing the site several times but staying for only a few seconds. I suspect he may be the person who stole some personal information from me. Is there any way I can block a single IP address to keep that guy from causing me trouble?

Can we have a link to your blog, starting with http? WordPress.com bloggers don’t have access to readers’ IPs, so I suspect you’re in the wrong forum and need to be at WordPress.org instead.

I got the IP in question from SiteMeter. It’s not a complete IP. The last number is listed as #.

Consider linking your user name to your blog as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums.

As you have seen, SiteMeter doesn’t give the whole IP. And even if you had it, you may not want to blacklist it. (Blacklist is available under settings>discussion in your dashboard.) The problem is that most home users have dynamically assigned IPs, meaning that their IP addresses change. So you might blacklist a legitimate user.

Even with them in your blacklist, though, you can’t stop them from visiting your blog, only from commenting.

And also do realize that they can use a different computer with a different IP address, or go to Starbuck’s and get on their wifi, or if they are like me, all they would have to do is reboot their DSL or cable modem and they would have a different IP address. And of course those on dialup get a different IP address each time they log in.
