    Can I build a website for my small business, see how it works without subscribing to a plan, and once the site is built, pay the plan, or am I forced to buy the plan to build the shop website ?

    From the get-go, it’s possible to build a site for free on WordPress.com – however you will be limited in some of the things you’ll be able to do, for example, installing plugins and themes onto the site – so you would need a paid plan.

    You mention building a shop on the site, to confirm, are you looking to have an ecommerce solution for your audience? If yes, these two guides may be of interest:

    You’re of course not forced to buy a plan, this can be built offline, locally and then uploaded into WordPress.com.

    However, if the site is built offline and hosted locally, we wouldn’t be able to help before and during the build.

    I generally always recommend building the site where it’s going to be hosted for the long term, mainly so that you can access WordPress.com support should anything go awry as the site is being built.

    Also, although it’s doable to move a site from A to B, it can be a bit of an unnecessary process.
