Can I buy a premium upgrade for someone else?
Maybe this sounds crazy but I wanted to upgrade my wife’s blog for Christmas.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ll tag this thread for Staff to help you through the process.
What is the URL of your wife’s blog?
Are you an official user of your wife’s blog?
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

    Thank you for the help.
I am not a user of the blog no, the site is http://twothreeornottwothree.wordpress.com/

    Hi there,

Yes, that’s completely fine. Your wife can enter your credit card details when purchasing the upgrade.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Oh yes I might not have explained that I was looking to make it a Christmas present of sorts….

Meaning that I wanted it to be a surprise/gift

It has been ask for as an option, gift certificate, renew someone’s Upgrade etc. I have suggested it a time or two but not a universally accepted good idea by some.

Depending on the Upgrade there could be a bit of a workaround – buy the upgrade for your blog then transfer the upgrade to your wife’s blog.

Should be able to do it yourself for any of them except a custom domain name – that would require staff help with the transfer (and you would be inside the 60 day internet transfer rule, but maybe the domain mapping could be transferred)

@gracejiyoung or one of the other staff should check back into this thread with their thoughts on my workarounds and any surprises you might have.

    Hi there!

That’s a great idea! Thanks @captnmike for the suggestions! What we can do is create a manual payment request and add the upgrades to your wife’s account or give her the same amount in paid credits!

A gift option is a great idea, and we’re definitely looking into it especially with the holidays coming around!

    Thank you!

I like the gift certificate for WordPress.com upgrades idea too. :)

You all be welcome & hope the gift certificate idea can be done & takes off

One of the things about gifts is the surprise factor, telling his wife to enter his credit card into her blog takes away the surprise factor, sort of like handing someone special an envelope with cash in it and telling them to go do their own Christmas / Birthday or other special event shopping themselves. Just not the same seems to me.

A couple of weeks ago I made a small gift for a friend and mailed it to her. She liked the gift but said they would have dropped by and picked it up & saved me the postage. My response was that she would have wondered why I ask them to drop by (several miles out of her normal traffic pattern) and that the surprise would have been lost. Her seeing my name on the return made her smile and there was the nice surprise factor.

So yes please add the Gift Certificate thing. And that would be something WordPress.com could shout from their news blog. And I bet you would sell some EXTRA upgrades, make it easy for people to give a gift. Also, many of the upgrades are quite modest in the price and would make the equivalent of a Stocking Stuffer.

It’s a good idea for a welcome surprise. That said, I would not cotton to anyone purchasing an upgrade for my blog and having it implemented without my prior permission.

However the Upgrade “certificate” or what ever you want to call it could show up on the Dashboard or Store >> My Upgrades with a “Click Here” to activate the Upgrade.

That would take care of the surprise install concerns of @Timethief.

Yes it would and you have just met a person who does not cotton to surprises when it has anything whatsoever to do with my blogs. :)
