Can I buy add-ons or not?

Is it just me, or were things simpler before? I seem to recall WP.com offering a selection of add-ons, including a video embed add-on that would allow me to embed more formats than just YouTube. Does that exist?

I did buy a ‘no ads’ feature, although I turned off the auto renewal feature that dips into your Visa or whatever. It didn’t work, or so a msg told me. Therefore, In case it ‘did’ work (I didn’t do the forensics to determine that), and WP collected two payments from me (because I just bought the ‘no ads’ manually when I got the fail msg), I turned off the auto renewal feature. I’ll figure it out when I see ad placeholders again.

Now when I click on ‘features’ I get met with a dumbed down selection of packages. I have no idea what they involve and I’m not about to risk screwing up my blog by diving into something that WP can’t explain up front. And I don’t have time to chase your links. WP doesn’t inspire me anymore. I find myself waiting for it to go completely to crap actually. (That’s not a nice feeling. My blog means a lot to me. It’s one of only a few things in my life that I consider to be productive.)

It’s like Windows. I use it, because it’s big and in your face and good at capturing a lot of market since non experts, like myself, can just jump in and use it. But over time, I came to hate windows and Microsoft and wish I was more tech savvy and less shy to jump into something else. Actually, I’m now at that point. I won’t be upgrading from Windows 7 to anything Metro-like.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.COM has changed the upgrade pricing to something like your cable TV plan – effective Sept 1, 2014 – in that people need to buy stuff they don’t want or don’t need

The good part is that your older account allows you to buy the original individual upgrades, just the ones you really want

The bad news is that the staff here have changed the way things look to you to make it more confusing for even long time users

sorry – I and many others lobbied against the new cable tv pricing policy and we lost

Thanks for the info auxclass. The capitalist motto is alive and well at WP: ‘Take what you get whether you like it or not and even if it hurts you’. I can live with this pain. And I still get something for it. But I’m quite disappointed in those running WP.
