Can I buy more than 1 year's domain hosting now?

    Can I buy more than 1 year’s domain hosting through word press at one time? For accounts reasons I need to pay for domain hosting now for the next 5 years so I can get a receipt and have it reimbursed (there is funding for the site, but only if I spend the money now). Just to be clear I plan to buy my own domain name from word press.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I don’t believe you can register a domain for more than one year at a time through WordPress.com.

    I’d suggest registering your domain through an outside registrar, then use domain mapping to map it to your blog.

    thanks, I guess I will have to do that. Its a shame as I most of the cost to word press is actually for pointing the website to my domain name, so I will have to pay for that each year, even if i register elsewhere. Thanks for your help,

    I’m just guessing here, but that may be why they limit it to one year. $5/year for any domain is generally a good deal already.

    andrewcpht is correct. We can purchase upgrades for one year at this time. Also $5 for a domain name is cheap and WordPress.com will not domain map to any domain name free of charge. You have two choices re: domain mapping.

    1. I do not own a domain name yet
    In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

    Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

    2. I already own a domain name
    If you would like to use your domain name purchased elsewhere and map from your free hosted wordpress.com blog to it, then you will first need to set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
