Can I cancel my domain?
-
I was wondering if I could cancel my domain and possibly buy it back (thenewgonzos.com). When my domain expired, I was broke and unable to pay for renewal. If it was the standard $18 I was willing to finally renew it now that I have secured a full time job. The site was something I started in college and now would like to still use through WordPress as long as I can get it at a normal price. Or I’ll just have to buy a new domain through a different blog service. I hope this can be resolved.

Hi there,
Right now your domain is in what is called Redemption Period. It means that even though it expired over 60 days ago, it can still be gotten back, but the company responsible for all domains, the domain registry, charges an additional fee of $80 on top of your normal registration renewal in order to get it back.
Now you can absolutely wait for it to expire fully (which happens around day 80 after expiration), at which point it will be released back to the general public, however keep in mind that anyone can buy it then and so you could lose it entirely.
It’s entirely up to you what you choose to do! Let me know and I’ll be happy to help you out either way.
