Can I change a user with a blog back into a “User Only”
-
I (user A) have created a WordPress.com account for my family only to view. I therefore created another user account (B) for them all to log in and view my blog (A).
Problem is … I omitted to say that user (B) should be a “User Only” (without their own blog). What’s happening is that my family are logging in as user (B) to view my blog, and very occasionally they press the wrong button and end up looking at their own blog (that belonging to user B) which is of course blank.
Can I edit user B so they don’t have a blog anymore but can only view my blog (A)
Does that make sense to anyone out there?

Yes makes total sense. I have done the same thing in fact. I don’t know of a way to remove User B from their blog without deleting it and that can get messy. My advice is to make a new User C, BUT not make User C have its own blog. You can create a username that is not associated to a blog. Send out this new username and password to them. This way the confusion goes way down for those not familiar with the whole blog idea.
Here are some faq pages that might be helpful if you ever want to make this account not only ‘view only’, but also add to the blog later. Also gets you familiar with the terms:

Forgot to mention that when you create a new username you need a distinct email and there is a checkbox asking whether or not you want a blog or just a username. Just select the choice of no blog that way they wont get confused.

Hey great to get a reply to that rather contorted message.
I think that sending out another username and password might even confuse some of the older members of the family (silver surfers I think one referred to herself as).
So…..can I do it without them noticiing….if I delete user B and create a user C with the same name will that be OK? .. or does WOrdpress.com remember old usernames &/or emails and not allow them to be reused?
What do you think?
-
No can do since it’s one username per email. Ok you thought your message was contorted well try this one on for size. I hope this makes sense:
I assume that UserA is yourself and you are admin of the BlogA. You then created UserB with their own BlogB, but they can also view BlogA. The problem you said is they view BlogB by accident so then I suggest you (UserA) take over admin of BlogB. This is done by making both UserA and UserB administrators of BlogB. Then after you are admin of it take UserB off as admin so the only blog associated with UserB is now BlogA. :)
After all this. UserA will be admin of both BlogA and BlogB and then UserB will only be able to view BlogA (or whatever setting you gave them – see links above in first reply).
Hope that makes sense, but the best I could do without any examples given since the blogs are private.
