Can I Change From Premium To Just A Regular Domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, my premium year is almost set to be renewed again, but I don’t want to renew it, as I’m creating a website and want the blog to be an extension of that as opposed to using my blog as a main website as I am now.
The only other option I assume is available to me is to buy a domain for $18. When I do this, will I retain my current blog? Meaning, I understand that I will lose some features associated with Premium status, but will posts, subscribers, etc, remain?

    Blog is found here: http://jackiejonesfiction.com/

Thanks in advance for your help :)!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can remove the domain mapping and all the content will be right where it is now. However, doing that means every link to that content no matter where it is on the internet will be broken and will produce a 404 (page not found) error message when clicked.

Okay, just to clarify: This means that even if I make the ‘new’ domain my primary and all posts, subscribers, etc are still there, it will not be possible to find said posts?

Additionally, will I just be able to continue posting – as though nothing happened, so to speak, without disrupting subscribers?

Thanks for your help so far!

You can retain the domain but not renew the rest of the bundle. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Thanks very much, was flailing about trying to understand this :).

Not to worry as Staff are gold. They will help you as soon as they work their way forward to this thread.

I was told to return here as it was a duplicate thread but it’s not. I’ve already paid for the new domain and have been trying for hours to cancel the old one as now my subscribers and new visitors will not be able to find my site. I keep getting an error saying I can’t cancel – internal error, etc.

I was trying to find out how long something like this would take to be resolved as it is obviously affecting traffic.

    Thank you.

You were told to return to this thread as it is tagged for Staff and they deal with all threads in order of datestamps from earliest tagged to latest tagged. They have a backlog and posting another thread or threads means they have a later date, so it takes longer to get help.

Okay — if they don’t get to me by tomorrow then, can I assume subscribers won’t receive my Monday post? Just trying to have an idea of time lines so if I need to I can start sending out blasts and not disappoint loyal followers.

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

I see that Irwin helped you with your old domain via email. You’re welcome to continue publishing new posts, and your followers will be able to reach your site at the new domain. (They just won’t be able to reach your site using the old, cancelled domain — but as long as they go to your site at the new domain, that shouldn’t be a problem for them!)

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help. :)

Thanks for the help and for resolving this quickly :)!

    Best.
