Can I change my blog address?

  I’d like to change the address of my blog. The info I’ve found about this so far all seems to be about how to change if I don’t want a WordPress blog anymore. I still want to use WordPress, I just want to change the part of the address that comes before that. Is this possible? Also, would I have to pay to do this? If so, any ideas how much this costs? Many thanks for your help.

  It’s possible, and it’s free, but we don’t generally advise it because you lose all search engine rank and in most cases the old URL dies forever even ifyou later want it back.

  Hi there, thank you for this.
  I’m afraid I’m not very knowledgeable on the terminology – by ‘search engine rank’ do you mean how far up the list of results my blog would appear in a google search? If so, I’m not too worried by this because it’s only really now that I want to use my blog more seriously.
  When you say ‘the old URL dies forever’ is this when a ‘page not found’ notice comes up when clicking on a link with the old blog name?

  My main wish is to be able to change the name of my blog but without losing the posts I have already written. I would like to change from ‘thegirlwhogrewintoacrocodile.wordpress.com to clairewalker.wordpress.com If there is a way to do this I would really appreciate some pointers. Many thanks for your help.

  yes.

  No. People will see a “This blog has been deleted by the owner” page.

  You won’t lose posts. You will lose followers unless you buy the redirect upgrade and DO NOT delete the old address.
