can i change the template for my website without losing posts?

I currently have a free wordpress page that I use for blogging purposes only. I use GoDaddy’s website builder program and have an RSS link on one of the pages that links to my blog on WordPress. I am interested in changing the appearance of the blog page and would like to explore other options with regards to templates. However, before I do so I wanted to know if I would have to backup all of my previous posts before changed templates or if all posts would transfer to the new template automatically.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I think the “no problem” happiness engineers will tell you that changing to a different template or theme will bring simple elements like posts along intact. I have a few simple test blogs which I conduct experiments on and I changed from old theme to responsive one with no loss of simple post content.
But I nevertheless think you’ve raised a very good question of how to acheive a complete backup of every feature of a more complex free wordpress.com blog. There is a backup guide in the pro-level wordpress.org forum but nothing that I can find for us wordpress.com-mon folk. Do we just have to risk loosing years of work?
I look forward to more answers to your question.
