can I charge a subscription fee for parts of my blo

If I have a business account can I charge a subscription fee for parts of my blog? I am a guitar teacher and I would like to post some password protected content on a subscription basis. I have registered the domain name through you and would be using your business package.

    Cheers,
    Michael

Yes, you can do that. We don’t have a system to handle the process for you, but you do that (via a PayPal button and passworded posts).

Depending on your long-term plan, it may make sense to keep migrating to WordPress.org as an option. There are various plugins available for WordPress.org that can manage a subscription-based membership site for you. In addition to the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and the costs in having your own host, most of the plugins do have a cost (one-time or a subscription themselves).

Staying with WordPress.com may make still sense, but wanted to give you the head’s up. :-)

    Thanks so much,

I really like the professional look of WordPress.com as well as the ease of use. If I move to .org can I still use the business upgrade?

Thanks for your help…you folks keep the world turning for us notsotechies.

    Cheers,
    Michael

  • Hey Michael,

Parts of it—namely your domain registrations, VideoPress, and the space upgrades for the videos. You would lose access to our support—that may be a dealbreaker.

I don’t meant to run you off :-) Just wanted to let you know if it seems like more work than it should be to manage the subscriptions and passwords yourself, there is another option for “phase 2”.

    No worries, much appreciated.
