Can I charge through Paypal for helping people write their resumes?

    Hi Staff,
I just read a great deal of forum materials explaining that wordpress.com blogs are NOT for affiliate/get rich/3rd party website referrals, etc, but that you may sell/refer to your own goods on Etsy (as an example). That’s great. However, I cannot find an answer to MY question. I would like to blog/explain how to write resumes and cover letters, and charge for writing resumes if customers would like to buy the service (maybe through Paypal?). I have found other people doing this, but after reading the forums I’ve decided to clear it with you before I continue; I haven’t even published the blog yet. Anyway, can I sell resumes I’ve created for people who need them–or is this breaking the rules? I am new, but I’m learning. Thanks much!

    Hi Rob,

That sounds fine as long as you’re selling your own items :) If you’d like to add a PayPal button to your site, we have instructions on how to do that here:

    Hi Evarlese,
Thanks so much for your Quick and Positive reply. You’ve made me very happy.

Because I’m a newbie and didn’t think to ask–can I ask you a couple more questions that I’ve come up against for which I could not find answers on the Forums?

    1) I followed you PayPal instructions on adding a button (although I haven’t added it yet), and it appears to be a ‘Donate Button’ with instructions that I can change its appearance IF I have the script. I hope that means I can 1) ADD an “Add to Cart” button AND 2) a BuyNow button (as PayPal offers instead of the ‘donate’ button). Is this true–or does the button have to say ‘Donate’???

    2) Can I add other forms of payment at some later time?…such as by common credit cards: Mastercard, Visa, Discover, etc)???

Thanks again for your excellent service.

  • I’m afraid e-commerce isn’t possible here at WordPress.com.

If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on e-commerce if you set up a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.
