Can I close this account??
-
I’m confused. I was trying to log into Jetpack (because I have a monthly payment from them) but when I went to Jetpack.com it told me to log in with my WordPress credentials.
So I used the credentials saved in my Apple Passwords ‘for this website’, but when I got logged in, I’m now on WordPress.com (not Jetpack) and none of my websites are linked.
So I think I need to delete this account, but I’m unclear about whether this will affect any of the websites I have as it’s warning me about deleting my access or something. Please help!
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi –
Our support team works in the forums too. Yes, you can close your account.
Here are the instructions. Write back if more help is needed.
Closing your account deletes all sites you own and all their contents. After a few weeks, the data will be entirely purged from our system, and at this point, the process cannot be reversed. Thank you and I apologise for the attitude, this was really frustrating me and I found the whole process very convoluted.
I ended up finding that I have another WordPress.com account that has some of my websites linked (though not all). I’m logged in there now (as you can see from the username change). And I successfully found the Jetpack subscription and canceled it myself.
Is there any way to migrate my WordPress account to my username that posted the original question? I read in that article that if I delete the empty account, my username will still not become available. It probably doesn’t really matter, I’m just curious at this point. Either way I don’t really want two of these accounts, it’s already confusing enough as it is!
Thanks again for your help.

Hi there,
Yes, it’s possible to connect your site to your other account. If you want to do it, you must first disconnect it from one account and then reconnect it to your other.
Let me know if you have any other questions, and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you both for your help. I have another related question.
I’m thinking of closing down a few of my websites, all hosted with Siteground, but I’d like to keep access to the content. I’ve now connected them all to my WordPress.com account using Jetpack, so I see them altogether there.
If I cancel my Siteground hosting for these sites, will they remain as-is on WordPress.com? Or is that not how it works?

Hi there!
Actually, your sites and all of their content are hosted on Siteground. So if you cancel Siteground hosting, your content is lost. Jetpack brings many WordPress.com features (like stats and sharing buttons) to your WordPress.org site. It also lets you manage multiple sites from your WordPress.com dashboard.
So if you were to cancel your Siteground hosting, Jetpack won’t have a site to connect to, and you will lose all your site content.
You can, instead, think about moving your content to WordPress.com.
There are different ways of migrating your self-hosted WordPress.org sites to WordPress.com. You can migrate an entire WordPress site with the WordPress.com Business plan. The Business plan is also great for sites with custom themes and plugins. You get access to 24/7 live chat with the yearly plan, real-time backups, SFTP access, high-performance servers, strong security with malware scanning, and more.
Once you’ve upgraded, you can follow the instructions here:
If you have a website built with WordPress on another hosting provider, generally referred to as a self-hosted WordPress.org site, and want to move it to WordPress.com, use our Import Everything option. The Import Everything option will copy your existing self-hosted WordPress site to your new WordPress.com site, including your content, media, plugins, and the theme. PrerequisitesImport fIf you only want to keep the content and don’t care much about the site’s design, you can also follow the steps here:
If you want to move content to WordPress.com from another WordPress site (either WordPress.com or a WordPress.org site), use the Import Content option. This option will import a copy of your pages, posts, and media to your new WordPress.com site, but not plugins, the theme, or other design elements. Feel free to tell us what kind of features you would like on your site, and we can suggest the most suitable plan for you.
When your sites are moved to WordPress.com, you can cancel your Siteground hosting, as your sites will then be on our servers.
