can I close wordpress.com and open a new .org using same domain

  You’ll need to purchase hosting if you’d like to use a self-hosted installation of WordPress. We have hosting recommendations available here:

  It’s not possible to use your .wordpress.com URL with a self-hosted installation of WordPress. Instead, you’ll want to purchase a custom domain, which you can do via a domain registrar or at the same time that you purchase your hosting.
