Can I close/suspend an old blog without deleting it?

    Good day,
    I am to administrate a new blog with a partner. It has no relation to my old blog, however they are both on Word Press. I really do not want my old blog popping up and/or interfering with the new one, can I close or hide it in some way? I would delete it but it has the same name as my shop and at some point I may want to use the name again. Or, can I delete its contents but keep the name dorment? I don’t mind losing what is on it, just don’t want to lose the name, and don’t want it involved while our new blog gets up and running.

    At Settings > Reading you may set the Site Visibility to private. It is the third option: “I would like my site to be private, visible only to myself and users I choose.”

    Or, can I delete its contents but keep the name dorment?

    Yes, you can, but this step is unnecessary if the goal is to merely hide the site temporarily.

    Good evening,
    I did follow the above suggested instructions, the day they were received, some time during the week, and again today. The setting now shows/claims that my posts and pages are in the trash, that the blog is private and only I can view it, and finally that no search engines will find it. Type its name into google and Every post and page displays! If it is (as the check box indicates) actually private, then why is it still showing? In utter, complete and total exasperation I attempted to delete it, and wordpress wouldn’t let me! Please Help!

    What is the URL of this blog please? Were you logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog? If you were not then you will not be able to delete it.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Making blogs private, deleting blogs, or deleting blog content does not remove any indexed content from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months. To completely remove an entire page from Google search results, after it is deleted and does produce a 404 (page not found) error message see here https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en
