Hi there,
Immediately when you post to your blog, your blog followers are notified by either email or through their WordPress.com Reader depending on the settings they set-up. You can read more about that here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/followers/
Is that what you’re referring to or are you trying to send your posts out manually?
I’m happy to troubleshoot more once I know a bit about what you’re looking to accomplish!

Thanks for responding to my query. I would like to post more from my blog but do not want to bombard my followers with every post that goes on my wordpress site. What I ideally want to do is schedule posts and my followers get some sort of reader digest of say, 3 or 4 posts on one email? Is this possible?

Currently, there isn’t a default way of doing that through the WordPress.com admin interface. Your posts are sent out automatically to your followers whenever you post to your site. Followers have the option of changing their subscription settings from WordPress.com as shown here:
So, your readers could set it up to only receive emails on a weekly basis. However, you will not be able to only send out updates weekly with several posts by default.
Here are a few potential solutions:
1. You could set-up another email service like Mailchimp. This allows you to build your own email list and send out updates in the format of your choosing at your preferred time. Here are some instructions on how to set up a Mailchimp form:

Please note, if you choose this option, your subscribers would no longer be logged at WordPress.com. You would be setting up your own subscriber list elsewhere. Your current WordPress.com subscribers (those that receive updates through their WordPress.com Reader) would need to sign up again through your new form. However, you can download your email subscribers to a CSV file and upload that to Mailchimp to start your list.
2. You could opt to publish all of your posts on only one or two days throughout the week. Subscribers would still receive notifications for each post, but they would only come on the days that you publish.
Let me know if either of those options sound like they would work for what you’re looking to do! I’ll be happy to provide more information.
