Can I control which avatar appears when commenting.

I have two sites with very different content. I have uploaded a blog photo for the second site but, when I reply to comments or comment on other blogs, my gravatar appears linking to my first site. Is it possible to comment using the new blog photo? I am not self hosted.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Some themes allow you to choose to post a comment with a different email when logged in to WordPress.com account. Your thetialys.wordpress.com has this option (check the folloing screenshot, besides my username there is a link to logout/change the account – http://snag.gy/Ffjc5.jpg)
If this option is not available, you should consider try to comment after logout from your account, or using a Incognito Mode from your browser.
Also, you should check Gravatar account settings to see if your gravatars is correctly associated with your different emails, access gravatar.com/emails/ while logged in.

Hi there and thanks for your response.
I tried logging out of my account and then commenting on one of my own posts using a different email and the web address of my other WP account. It worked but gave me a generic avatar next to my comment. I suppose that’s O.K. but my other account is for raising awareness and funds for an animal shelter and I think comments would get more attention if my ‘fluffy kitten’ blog photo came up rather than some purple squiggles. Also the squiqqles aren’t clickable although the user name is and would take somebody through to the site. I might have to settle for this unless you have any solution. Thanks again for your help. -
You should try to add a gravatar account for that email… can you check if there’s any associated with it?
Can you post here the username of the other account? I can help you better if you do.

I see.. on that blog, you are trying to comment as tialys. What happens is that the gravatar associated with this account (the email is the unique identifier) is the “heart-house one”.
I don’t think you can do what you want with the same user.

I’ve registered a new blog but couldn’t do it under the same name – had to put a ‘the’ before ‘cat rescue carcassonne’. I now have to discard the original one when I transfer it over which makes me a bit nervous in case I lose it all. However, I’m off on my hols tomorrow and will maybe take the plunge when I get back and can concentrate on it a bit more.

I guess you will not need another blog. Only a new user. As you already registered a blog named catrescuecarcassonne, a username named catrescuecarcassonne is not available anymore…
You can make the thecatrescuecarcassonne and assign administrator priviledges (role) to this new user at https://catrescuecarcassonne.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=wpcom-invite-users, then you are able to admin it entirely with the new user, which should have its own gravatar
