Can I convert from free to self-hosting and keep all my data/format?

I want to add plug-ins to my free WP blog, mostly for social media sharing (pin it buttons on photos, etc)…and I’d like to paste the code generated by Google analytics into my site (unless that’s what already comes with my free blog? I’m confused on this point)…The WP info about self-hosting freaks me out, though. I don’t want to mess with the appearance of the site I currently have or have to download a template from WordPress.org and start over. I want to keep my site as is, except I want the ability to add plug-ins. If I get the basic self-hosting plan, will my site convert seamlessly, or will I have to download my theme, import my data and manually clean up the site? I’m using Sundance theme and the site is chereefranco.wordpress.com. Thanks!

  • Howdy –

Using the installation of WordPress for a self hosted site is much more hands on than what you’ve built here with WordPress.com. There are some great resources under the ‘Getting Started’ title on the left side of https://wordpress.org/support/

We do have a step-by-step instructional guide to walk you through the process of moving from WordPress.com over to WordPress.org: https://move.wordpress.com/

Under Theme Options in the Sundance set up instructions You will see that you can add social media links to your sidebar.
