Can I copy and paste from Word into WordPress pages and posts?
-
I was wondering how I can copy from a Word document and paste it into a WordPress page. Is this possible? What are the steps I need to follow to accomplish this?

You can but you’ll wish you didn’t. You’ll be doing a lot of editing once you bring it over and it’s more headache than it’s worth. Do you have notepad? If you do you’ll want to copy/paste from there IMO.
That said, if you go to where you write a post and hit “alt-v” you’ll see more options pop up, including the “Paste from word”.

You can also use the “paste from word” icon in the extended visual editor toolbar and paste the stuff from Word into the window that pops up and then click the “insert” button. That will strip out the offending Word code that messes things up.

That’s the icon that pops up when he will hit the “alt-v”. The extended visual editor pops up when you hit alt-v.
That’s a little tip from diss :)
“the offending word code”…hahaha… that was politely put! that used to give me such a fuss when I used to use word for blogging. no more!

Try pasting to a notepad first and then copying from notepad to paste to your blog. That’s worked well for me.

Or live dangerously and post directly from your dashboard. Lost at least three posts that way.

I only do pages with the wordpress editor, I’m using an offline blog editor for posts as I too have lost them when the internet or wordpress belched.

I have used the “post from word” icon and I still have problems.
I have a Mac, anyone know what is the equivalent of “notepad” on a MacBook?

For those of you on the Windows platform, Microsoft offers one of the better offline blog editors that is compatible with WordPress. You might want to check out Windows Live Writer
