Can I create a custom menu based on a parent category, w/a dropdown of sub-cats?
-
I would like to create a custom menu using a parent category and have it display a dropdown menu containing all of its subcategories (rather than creating a single page that just pulls up all of the pages for all of the subcategories). In other words, I have a category for authors and it’s the parent to all of the categories for individual authors. I would like the menu tab labeled “authors” and then have its dropdown show all of the sub-items, the names of specific authors, so that people can just pull up the posts for a specific author.
Is there a way to do that?

Ah, I should’ve mentioned, as I add new sub-categories (when I write about new authors), I’d like them to automatically be added to the dropdown, not have to add each one manually each time (I know how to do that). What I’m hoping is that since I’m using a parent category that I can somehow have it set up to automatically display all of its sub-items in its dropdown menu — just like it does when it’s part of the complete dropdown display on my categories widget. The only difference being that I want this dropdown display to _only_ show the parent author category and its sub-categories.

Hello there,
I’m sorry, but I am not aware of a way to automatically create a menu with a parent category and its child categories on WordPress.com.
This would be possible on a WordPress.org site where you could add some custom code, but this not allowed on WordPress.com for security reasons.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!
