Can I create a new blog using my own previously deleted blog address?
-
Hi, brand spanking new to WordPress and was trying to create a site with 3 static pages and 1 blog posting page. I ended up making 3 rubbish pages and 1 blog posting page and in an effort to get rid of them I deleted all but the blog page. So far so good…
But then I went to customise my theme and it just couldn’t load the deign tools. Permanently stuck on loading. Also when i went to my blog there was still a “home” page but it just said “Page not found”. I suspected that the loss of the Home page was affecting the theme, so I went to try to change the remaining page so it was listed as page 1, but couldn’t get into the theme to make it the home page.
Finally, thoroughly frustrated I thought, “Well I don’t have any content on this blog really so I’ll just delete and start again”. And here we are…
I would like to re-use the name I had on the original blog but when I go to create a new blog, it says that blog address is not available. Surely, I can re-use my own blog address which I deleted?
All help would be appreciated. I cannot put a blog address as currently, I have none!
Many thanks,
Leigh -

No I am sorry but you cannot claim a deleted blog URL. No one can use a deleted blog URL regardless of who registered it. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled here and you can confirm by reading:

However, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

That happens when you delete the default Hello World Post – normal – next time either don’t delete Hello World or make a new Post – then the error will not happen

Thank you so much guys! This has been a real help. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can’t say it enough :)

I’ve changed it to byleighblog.wordpress.com and created a test post with a missing image (I’ll have to deal with that on another day). Haven’t done anything else but chosen a theme so far. Given my time restrictions (I’m home with 2 kids under age 2) and my supremely technological mind (not!) I’ve decided to build the site on Wix and just link to a single blog page here. Will certainly ask your opinions when I have something worthwhile to show… and possibly if I get stuck again :)

btw, your thistimethisspace blog is beautiful. You obviously know your way around WordPress. I really love the vibe you’ve created there.

Thank you for the compliment. :) I wish I had more time for that blog but I work in our small business and also do contracted work, when I have time most of it is spent here answering questions or on my main blog, which is here http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com
