Can I create a rotating header?
-
Hey Happiness Gurus! I’m developing my WordPress site (hosted on WordPress, so no plug-ins for me), and I’m trying to create a rotating header (specifically an images that fades into another image every few seconds). Is this possible?
I know there was a Cimy Image Rotator plug-in that did this, but is there anything built in for WordPress-hoted custom domains?
Thanks!

Hey there!
You can indeed have a header that rotates images! You will want to choose a theme that includes that as an option. It isn’t a feature that can be added to any theme.
For instance, here are a couple:

http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/adventure/There are also themes that have a post slider as a header. This means that instead of rotating header images, the images that are displayed are the featured images from your posts. Not all of these have auto-slideshows, though. Most are manual, for the visitor to scroll through:

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

Well, heck – that was SUPER quick and SUPER helpful. I am experiencing much appreciation – thank you!
I guess my only follow-up question is how easily the content I have on my current theme will port over to one of these themes (there isn’t much yet, my site is two weeks old), and whether that will include the color customization I’ve set up within the current theme?
THANKS!

Your content will all be there exactly as you have it now! Some themes have a different number of menus in different locations, so you may need to reset where your menu appears. The same applies with your Widgets.
Theme customizations don’t transfer over since each theme will use the color settings slightly differently. However, if you switch back to your previous theme, you’ll see the customizations you had made there previously.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions. :)
