can i create a website and then upload it to my ftp host

  I am interested in creating my site and then uploading it into my FTP host. I would imagine this is not allowed as you guys have a monthly fee. However that is my ideal so I want to explore my options. The option thus far I know of is mapping my host on wordpress and then working through you. Please contact me to discuss.

  Hi Stephanie,

  I’m not sure I understand what you’re looking to do. If I understand correctly, you’re looking to create a site elsewhere and then upload it through FTP to WordPress.com. Is that correct? If so, I’m afraid that will not be possible as WordPress.com users are not provided FTP access.

  Hello!
  Thank you for the response!
  Actually I am wondering if the oposite is possible..
  I want to use word press to create a inactive website and then take that file and upload it to my existing FTP hosting that I currently have.
  Does that make anything more clear?

  Thanks for clarifying! You’re welcome to create your site here and then export it:

  Export Your Website’s Content

  However, that will only bring your posts, pages, comments, and media items to the new site. It won’t bring things like settings, theme, etc. You won’t be able to do an FTP download/upload to move everything.
