Can I customize a premium theme?

Just a quick question here.
I’m weighting my options on buying a premium theme vs just adding the “custom design” option in my existing one.
I want to be able to change the colors of the theme, add images and some widgets to the theme I choose, but I don’t have the time to start from zero.
Is it possible to customize a premium theme – as in changing colors or adding widgets? Nothing too crazy.
If it’s possible do I have to pay extra for the “custom design” option, or is all included in the price of the premium theme?
Also, if I choose the premium theme I just have to pay for it once right? or is it like a yearly payment?

Is it possible to customize a premium theme – as in changing colors or adding widgets?
Widgets can be added no matter what – premium theme or free theme. Some themes will have theme-related widgets, but all widgets here are available on any WordPress.com site:
However, in order to change color all across your site you will need the Custom Design upgrade ($30/year). This will allow you to apply custom colors and edit CSS if need be. We provide CSS support here:

Please note that this would be on top of the Premium Theme price, and not included.
What you can do is just purchase the theme and play around with it. You have a 30 day refund period for Premium Themes. In addition, you can preview Custom Design and see if it’s something you want/need. If you do you can purchase it then.
