Can I deactivate the follow button on my site?
-
Is there a way to deactivate the FOLLOW button on my website? I still want to create blog posts but don’t want people to receive notification of when the posts are made.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I sorry but I don’t know how to remove the action bar with the follow … at the bottom of our blogs. I tagged this thread with modlook for a Staff response. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

I see an “unsubscribe from this topic” link in the sidebar. Does that mean I remain subscribed to this thread and will be notified when staff responds?

Hi there! You can not remove the follow button from the action bar. But you can turn off the logged out follow up button in WP Admin under Settings > Reading:

Uncheck the box next to “Logged out users” “Show follow button to logged out users.” and save your changes.

Thanks Shawn! Changing the “logged out user” setting accomplishes my first objective…keeping new people from FOLLOWing my site. Now for the second part. When I publish a new post, will those who already signed up to follow my site get notification of the post? Or does the changed setting eliminate that push notice? I want the site to be a repository for blog posts, and I want to notify people of new posts in a manner other than through WordPress. Thank you!

There is no way to disable the emails that go out when you publish posts. However, if you make the site private, then we will not send emails to followers who are not also listed on your users page here:
https://jtcnutrition.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php
When you set a site private, it will not show up in search engines and people will not be able to view the site. So, depending on what your intention is for the site, it might not be a great option.

Thanks Shawna. Setting the site to private does not meet my objective. I’ll see how I can manage my list of current followers. Kindly, Julie
