Can I delete permalinks?
-
A friend somehow did not understand that comments were public. I deleted her comments but they are still showing up under a Google search.
Is there any way to remove these? She is freaking out over some comments she posted and does not want them to come up in a search by a potential employer.
Thanks.

Hi Shawn,
When you see the comments in a Google search, does clicking the link take you back to your blog with the comment visible?
After you deleted the comment, it’ll live in the “Trash” for 30 days or until you empty it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#accessing-your-trash
Assuming the comment was deleted, the search engines won’t reflect this change instantly. They’ll crawl your site based on their algorithms and update their system accordingly. This is a feature of the search engines and isn’t controlled by WordPress.
In short, they’ll drop off of Google’s results in due time.
Cheers!

The link goes to the blog but the comment does not show since I deleted (and emptied it from the trash). Her comment does currently show in the search results even though it has been deleted.
I figured it would go away in due time, but just wanted to make sure.
Thanks for your help!

Deleting blog content does not remove it from the SERPs (search engine page results). Currently Google and Bing seem to clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.
