Can I move my live Squarespace website over to WordPress w/out
losing what’s in Squarespace, in the event I don’t like working in
Wordpress? If so, how do I ensure the WordPress one doesn’t go live before

Hi there, you can absolutely try out the free features of your WordPress.com site. It won’t have the paid features, but you can get a feel for whether you’d like to then purchase a plan and move the domain.

https://wordpress.com/pricing/With regards to importing your content – yes, you can do that; and it won’t affect the live site you have with Squarespace now:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-squarespace/Typically the import brings in the text and images, though usually not the layout as Squarespace and WordPress are two different systems.
The only thing which can affect your Squarespace site would be if you were to transfer, or connect, your domain to WordPress.com. While you don’t have a paid plan, it’s highly unlikely that you’d do either! More information about them here:
