Can I disable right-clicks on WordPress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello.

Is it possible to disable the right-click on the site? Thank you!

    Hello,

The above site was my homepage, which at some point defaulted back to the other one with no contents. Please help me change my homepage back to original before making it public.

    Thanks

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hey there, I’d recommend against disabling right-click for usability reasons, but if you’d like to share why you want to prevent right-clicking, we may be able to recommend alternatives.

That said, it is possible to stop right-clicks on a WordPress.com blog with an outside plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/disable+right+click/

You would just need a Business Plan to support outside plugins, but that would open other options for you as well.

Also, I’ve split your comment into a new forum thread. Best to start a new thread when the topic title issue is resolved, and new questions are not related. That makes it easier for others to find answers here, too. Cheers!

Yes, you can disable right-clicks on WordPress.com by navigating to the Settings tab and selecting “Disable right click” in the General Settings menu. This will prevent users from right-clicking on your content and copying it without permission.

The right click disable option is good to protect the personal/private photo album, until the site is ready to publish and know the audience. As Supermovia mentioned above, the disable option is not available in the Setting General tab at this time. Are those plugins offered in your link above safe and free? Thank you in advance!

There is no 100% protection against copying from a website. Disabling the right-click is one of the tricks to make it a little bit more difficult, but then there are several other ways to scrape content from a site.

Are those plugins offered in your link above safe and free?

WordPress.org offers a huge variety of plugins that can help you customize and enhance your website. When it comes to the safety of these plugins, it’s important to remember that WordPress.org is a trusted platform that takes security seriously.

The plugins available on WordPress.org are created by a community of developers who follow strict guidelines and best practices to ensure the security and reliability of their code. Additionally, WordPress.org has a team of volunteers who review each plugin before it is made available to the public to ensure that it meets their standards for quality and security.

That being said, it’s still important to exercise caution when choosing and installing plugins. Make sure to read reviews and check the plugin’s ratings before downloading it. And always keep your plugins updated to ensure that any security vulnerabilities are patched.

Additionally, the WordPress.com Business plan offers many security benefits that can help protect your site from threats like hacking and malware. For example, the plan includes daily backups and automatic updates, so you can be sure that your site is always running on the latest and most secure version of WordPress. Additionally, the plan comes with advanced security features like spam filtering and malware scanning, which can help keep your site safe from malicious attacks.

Overall, if you use common sense and follow best practices, you can feel confident that the plugins offered on WordPress.org are safe and trustworthy and we’ll take care of the security of your site just in case.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Impressive array of options! And is any of them free for now? I will need the right click disable only for limited time. Thanks!

Can you clarify more on this?

The right click disable option is good to protect the personal/private photo album, until the site is ready to publish and know the audience.

If your website has not been launched yet and your images are not publicly available, you may not need to disable anything. This is because only you and WordPress.com staff members (who have access to the backend of your site) can view the images. No one else can see them since they are not published or available to the general public.

Not published yet since it is not ready. I have another 15 days ahead to add and write more before I can make ut public. Thanks!

@mdamav If you intend to share your photo albums only with selected individuals, you can keep your WordPress.com site’s Privacy setting at Private and invite those individuals to view them. This keeps those photos out of public view and away from being crawled by search engines. More about this here, Privacy Settings

However, once an individual has access to your site, there is no way currently to keep them from right-clicking on an image and saving it. As @staartmees mentioned earlier, there is no 100% protection from copying content from a website.

Thanks all for feedbacks! I was just noting many websites, which simply have no right-click option on them. Per @supernovia above link, I just wonder if anyone has tried one of those plugins. The link shows an impressive array of alternatives on WordPress.org.

Well, my WP version doesn’t offer the disable right click in the Settings. When I want to install one of the plugins offered above by WP staff, even though free on the third party’s part, my version needs me to upgrade. Is this the last option for my site to have the disable right click option?

    Thanks!

  • Is this the last option for my site to have the disable right click option?

Yes, it is. And to summarize: we don’t recommend disabling the ability to right click for reasons like accessibility, however, WordPress.com site owners have the option available to them by way of 3rd party built plugins. The ability to install 3rd party plugins on WordPress.com starts with the Business plan. Let us know if you have any other questions about disabling right click or the Business plan.

As instructed, to start a new topic I started a new blog but to no avail. Unfortunately, My URL is shown inadvertently, which is not what I want. Please let me know how to remove that URL or close that thread. My site is private for now.

    thanks!
