Can I disable comments on pictures in the carousel?

    @timethief our paths don’t often cross because I mostly look in on the forums in the mornings UK time when Canadians are still asleep…..it’s past my bedtime now “yawn”.

    @justjennifer and everyone else. To get back on-topic add my vote for WordPress to come up with a way of bulk-editing comments on/off on media.

    It’s already Monday, November 7, 2016 in the Middle East where justjennifer is. I think it’s great to have people from all over the globe volunteering so there aren’t dead times on the support forums. Many people on the Canadian coast like the Gulf Islands where I live came from the UK, and many of our expressions are actually theirs, which we are immediately reminded of when we converse with other Canadians. ;) So off to bed with you now and best wishes for sweet dreams. :)

    @tt @themagicrobot- It’s not really a “they don’t think it’s broken” kind of thing. The last discussion I recall on this topic @designsimply indicated this is something that needed to happen in core WP and opened a ticket on it, yes, back in the day. :)

    I don’t think the Calypso dashboard changed anything as far as commenting is concerned. It would be great if there was an additional setting under Site Settings>Discussion>”Allow people to post comments on media” and uncheck that box as default.

    Let’s wait for Staff to look in with an update. WP 4.7 is close enough that we should be able to smell its effects here, if we aren’t already.

    @kittens000 et al – The other option, which can also be set as your default, is to turn off commenting site-wide. That way when you upload your images, the default setting will be “comments off”. Of course you then need to remember to enable commenting per Post and/or per Page. If you do a lot of images that are connected to the Carousel or Attachment pages, it might be worthwhile doing it this way.

    If I turn off comments site-wide, won’t that delete all comments already made? Otherwise an interesting workaround.

    No, it won’t delete existing comments. It will only prevent comments from being made on new posts/pages/images going forward. https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/ That’s point 3 under default article settings.

    Turning comments off will not change media you’ve already uploaded. You’ll still need to edit those one by one.
