I see that staff can use a box that looks like this courier font
Is that for staff use only?
If not please tell me how to do those boxes.
Thanks.

The Classic Editor is also available in WP Admin
Is that still true? Do you know for how long?

Another question to make sure I understand.
If a person with a current domain hosted by another host uses a free wordpress.com website with the subdomain to be able to try WordPress out before they buy a WordPress plan should they be using their current domain name or should they create a different domain name while they try out WordPress?
What is the advantage or disadvantage of using a person’s domain name if they are trying out WordPress?
If they use their current domain name with a free site and then buy a paid plan does the subdomain name get removed when they buy a plan?

That is a code block, used for posting code here in the forums without the code being processed by the browser.
Wrap your text between backticks, or press the
codebutton above the reply box, before and after your text. The Classic Editor is also available in WP Admin

It is currently available there, but it won’t be supported indefinitely, so we’re not actively promoting that and instead encouraging people to get used to the block editor. I don’t have a timeline for you how long it will still be available.

Why would they need to create a different domain?
They can create their WordPress.com site at the free address while their current site stays online at their existing domain, and once they’re ready they can just switch the domain over to us on a paid plan to use the domain with their WordPress.com site. If you search these forums you’ll find hundreds of replies just by me explaining this.

I don’t understand what you’re asking here.
A domain is a way to establish and strengthen your online brand, your unique identity on the web. There’s no reason to use a custom domain if you’re just trying out WordPress.com, but if you’re ready to launch an actual website to promote yourself/your products online, using a custom domain is a definite advantage over just using a free WordPress.com subdomain.
If they use their current domain name with a free site and then buy a paid plan does the subdomain name get removed when they buy a plan?
The free WordPress.com address is never removed. The only way to completely remove that is to entirely delete the site. When someone adds a custom domain and sets that as primary, the free address gets redirected to the custom domain, but it still exists in the background.

Hello! I’m going to build a new website. My current site is built in Wix. The domain was purchased under Hostmonster. If I build my new site in WordPress, should I transfer the ownership of the domain from Hostmonster to WordPress? Or leave it alone?Sep 7, 2020 4:31 am#3557646REPLY

Hi there,It’s completely up to you. Transferring the domain here is simpler in the long run if you ask me, though, as then you can manage your domain and site in one place.
Leave that until last, though. Build your new site at the free WordPress.com address we provide, and only transfer the domain here once you’re ready to take the Wix site offline.
In the answer, @kokkieh gave you said to wait to use the persons domain until after they are done with the free wordpress.com site. What is the reason for waiting to transfer the domain and use the free site first and to not use their current domain?
That is what I am wanting to understand.
If I am understanding correctly you are saying for a person to
notmove their domain name to WordPress until they have already built their WordPress site? Please correct me if I am wrong.

So you can experiment and build your site at that free address, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.
That quote is from the above link.
I will ask again it is better for a person to use a free address before moving over to WordPress?
Does upgrade mean to buy a paid plan?
Does switch the domain over to us mean to map or transfer the domain?

They might not have a hobby site. The site might promote a business. They’d want to leave the old site up and working whilst they spent the hours/days designing the new WordPress.com site/transferring content if required and then transfer the domain only when everything is in place.
Does upgrade mean to buy a paid plan?
Yes.
Does switch the domain over to us mean to map or transfer the domain?
Yes.

Just to clarify themagicrobot’s answer, you can choose to either map a domain registered elsewhere to your WordPress.com site:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
Or you can transfer your domain registration to WordPress.com if you would rather do that:

Do those who have hosting with Registrar: Wild West Domains, LLC | Reseller: WordPress.com get support from this forum, or do they need to go to the wordpress.org forums?
I noticed that the name servers for WildWest domains are the same as wordpress.com
Name Servers: ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com

Wild West Domains, WWD for short, is one of our domain partners, meaning we sometimes resell domains from them.
So, if you see someone here with a concern about a WWD domain, there’s a very high likelihood that we’re the domain registrar.
